Welcome to Take a Hike Northwest

Where you can explore the rugged Cascades, lose yourself in an old-growth forest, splash in glacier-fed rivers and skip about the stunning Olympics without leaving your living room...

Join us for playful, family-friendly accounts of some of the best hikes and hang-outs in the Northwest. Mount Rainier National Park is a family favorite, so this site is heavy on that end.  Plans are underway to include glimpses along some trails in Puget Sound, Nisqually, Lake Quinault, Mount Saint Helens, and Port Angeles, among others.

All "trail tales" are in the first person, often told with a twinkle

Don't forget to visit our Trail Tips on the Mount Rainier - Hikes page and take a gander at our Rating System, based on - what else? - ice cream.

The fine print: Take a Hike and these pages neither pretend nor intend to be a trail guidebook.  You won't find any maps, elevation gains, topographical lay-outs or that sort of thing here.  TaH takes a more casual, conversational approach to hikes and hang-outs in the Northwest.  If that's your cup of sunshine, drink up.  If not... well.  Don't say I didn't warn you.

More fine print: These pages are under heavy construction.  Additions, revisions and tweaks go on all the time - when I'm not on the trail, walking the dog, at the library, baseball field, YMCA, sleeping, reading, teaching, blogging, jumping in mud puddles, eating ice cream...  (Please report any broken links here.)
